The Three-Line Crime

God forbid you try to communicate in full sentences, and without emojis.

You’re doomed. No one will like you anymore, and soon enough you’ll be considered slightly unhinged. And then completely.

Because you write long messages.

Because no one can read past the first five words anymore. No one. Regardless of age. Attention span now depends on how wide our device screens are.

Let’s try an experiment. Take any of these so-called "long” messages. Format the complete, not even complex, sentences on an A4 page. The message of the “crazy woman who writes too much” would shrink to no more than three lines.

Not long ago - not long at all - writing three lines on a normal sheet of paper was considered incomplete. It required further thought. Literary, psychological, existential thought. Deeper study. Now, it is a blatant obstacle to daily communication.

I am a teacher. Searching for a modern cuneiform language. Just to avoid being labeled irreversibly insane. Because I still want to express myself. The way I was taught when I, too, was a student.

This too shall pass.
